| - Cheap drinks are the name of the game here at Savoy. We usually come on a Sunday or a weeknight, and the bar is only moderately full and fairly quiet (unless there is a large group). Perfect atmosphere.
On most nights, they have $3 shots of Jamieson and Jager. Their house beer, Savoy, is $10 a pitcher, all the time. Listen, most house beers suck. Hence the price. This stuff, however, is delicious! Totally tastes better than your run-of-the-mill house lager you'd normally find. Try it!
I've personally never eaten here, though some of my company has. A burger and a chicken wrap, if I recall correctly, both of which seemed agreeable (and again, very inexpensive).
Service is good! I've never been in on a night where there is an actual server, it's just been the bartender. She'll come to your table for your order, or you can just head up to the bar if you wanna run cash & carry. Very friendly bartenders, we've been there often enough that most of them know us by mine. Nice touch.
Two things prevent the full 4-star rating (though its oh-so-close).
On a Friday or Saturday night, this place becomes a sweaty pit with a loud, amateur DJ. We tried to come on a Friday once, without really considering this possibility, and when we walked in it took about 3 seconds to make the decision to leave. Not a huge deal though, this may be what some people want on a weekend. I don't, so I'll be steering clear on these days.
The other thing (and this might be just be my over-observance as a bartender from a customer service perspective) is that on two or three occasions, the owner has come in during a shift, stepped behind the beer, and began checking all the bottles, one by one. He has them labelled to see the levels so that he can compare to sales and ensure the bartenders aren't stealing. Completely standard practice, don't get me wrong. But this needs to be done AFTER the shift, not during when their are patrons sitting on the bar, watching this all happen. It almost makes you uncomfortable, and it distracts the bartender and somewhat puts her on edge. Bad practice!
Overall, great place. A cozy, cheap place to sit at the bar and have some beverages solo or with a friend, and also a good spot to come with 4 or 5 friends easily accommodated. I'm sure I'll be in again later this week.
