I am a fan of food markets and specialty grocery stores, so I was definitely looking forward to this spot opening in South End. I agree with another poster who said LH is similar to Earl's Grocery. You order at the counter and pick up your plate then bus your own plates when you are finished. Typical counter service. I tried their play on the banh mi called the Banh Joe V. Served on a very crusty french baguette, the sandwich is filled with thinly sliced pork, pickled veg and cucumber along with jalapeno and cilantro sprigs. Instead of pate, they use a foie gras aioli. The sandwich was fresh and crunchy, a little hard to eat but very tasty. It did come with a side of white bean salad which I didn't need. At about $9 plus tax, it does cost more than your average banh mi and that's ok because the flavor delivered! I would gladly take home a baguette to eat for breakfast. There's a variety of wines and specialty food items, candles and home goods, treats for kids and doggos to take home. I would come back here when I am in the area for a coffee or to catch up with a friend. Parking is super limited so park on the street and walk over. I am curious to see how this place progresses as time goes on since they're only a month old so far!
