We walked by Sugar Marmalade, and I was excited that they offered Taiwanese dishes as well as desserts. Great hours too - They open at noon and close at 2 or 3 AM. First time we went, I ordered one of the house special desserts with grass jelly, tapioca, sago, ice cream, and some kind of yogurt tasting tapiocas that popped like gushers. This was excellent. It wasn't too sweet and the different textures made for a fun party in your mouth.
Second time we went I ordered the Taiwanese ground pork dish. It was microwaved, which I expected judging from the size of their kitchen, but the tea egg and vegetables were really shriveled. The flavor of the pork was good though - it reminded me of home and hit the spot at 9 at night. The dessert we ordered was black glutinous rice with almond soup. I didn't like it - it was way too starchy and held none of the flavor or interest of the first dessert.
Not sure I'd like a lot of the desserts, but if I just stick with the tried and true coconut milk based desserts, I'll be a happy customer.
