  • Time travel. The concept has always fascinated me. However, XO has taught me that time travel in real life is fraught with danger, annoyance, and confusion. As you walk up the stairs, you are heading through a time portal back to the mid 2000s. There is no warning, so heed mine. Your first challenge will be a classic test from that time period... deciphering a tragically designed TV system, with a bizarre remote control set up. Possible fix #1: If you can't see the remote because the room is dark, and some things are glowing, it's a black light. A classic tool of misdirection from that era, though normally reserved for top 40 clubs. Look for the other light switch. Possible fix #2: You might want to call your parents for help. Maybe all the times you taught them how to send a text message will pay off now. Possible fix #3: Bring someone who is Master of the old technologies AND reads Korean. (yes, both) If you've passed your first test, you are now flipping through a huge binder of songs. Cancel that. You are waiting for someone else who is flipping through the binder, because there is only one song binder. Be patient when waiting. You will judge your friends for taking too long to choose their songs. But don't forget where you are, and more importantly, WHEN you are. Song selection is not easy. Not here. Not now. Hope is a dangerous thing. Be careful about getting your hopes up when you see an Artist that you love. There is an 80% chance that the song selection is completely irrational. Pearl Jam? - hopefully your favourite songs are I am Mine or Light Years. RHCP? - no Under the bridge. no Scar tissue Pink F____ ? - no. zero. but there are 300 Pink songs Perhaps the worst offender was Kelly Clarkson. Undoubtedly, nobody will be listening to her music by the time you read this, but in that era she was famous for a song called Since you've been gone. Although the binder held about 50 of her songs, this was not one of them.... except - wait... it's listed as "Gone" ! nope. That's just some other song called "Gone". Nevermind. My best explanation for XO's song list is that they acquired the collection via FTP from a bar mitzvah DJ. Unfortunately, they messed up the file transfer and ended up with the 80% least played songs. 2 stars because it's still karaoke, and it's cheap, and it's one of the few time portals in this city.
