| - In one word: inconsistent
I had read so many other reviews of this buffet, and they were very mixed. Still, there seemed to be some recent reviews that were highly rated, so we decided to fork over $86.46 including tax for two people with our Total Rewards card. My wife and I started by sampling a bite of each of perhaps 20 items to see what was good. I was shocked about how some of my favorite buffet items didn't interest me at all this trip, and others were done better than even the ultimate Todai buffet had been.
Sushi Rolls - I found rice to be a bit more dry than a good sushi place would have, but not dry enough for me not to eat. All buffet places have dry rice since it is sitting out. Because I did see a good volume of sushi going out here, it wasn't old, and hence not dry. The sashimi (just the fish) was split. White fish was simply nasty. Tuna was on-par with other buffets, and the salmon was simply excellent. Needless to say I probably ate way more salmon than I should have.
Crab Legs - Surprisingly good (hot) although they don't steam them fresh like Aria does.
Lobster Tails - small, and a friend reported of three he ate, one was good, two bad. My wife seemed to enjoy hers though.
Prime Rib - decent and cooked well, but a little on the fatty side.
Crayfish - decent
Fried shrimp - excellent, crispy, delicious
Fried squid/calimari - very small, mostly batter, but tender inside
Paella - disgraceful. More like rice with seafood and tomato. If you want to know paella, DO NOT JUDGE based on this tomato rice dish.
Shrimp, peel and eat - okay size, but tasted like they needed a good wash.
Gelato - okay, but not as good as what you can find in the Pelazzo, which also isn't as good as in Rome. But it's still better than ice cream.
And finally, what really did it in for me:
Cheesecake - Let me start by saying that I love cheesecake. You can totally screw up cheesecake and I will still not only eat it, but simply devour and enjoy it. The cheesecake here made me want to scream and leave. I said it tasted like the bottom of a barrel of rotten seafood. My wife, not believing me, took a bite. She said it tasted like rotten chicken. Needless to say, this didn't...leave a good taste in our mouths.
Yes, there is some good stuff here, but also some very bad. Why should you chance it and pay so much? Please save your money and go to Aria or another buffet with less selection, but higher quality.
