| - I apologize for such a lengthy review. I just feel it necessary to back up my low-rating. There seems to be something fishy about the way this clinic charges for procedures. I originally went in hopeful about finally getting some long overdue work done. My original dentist was great, but no longer affordable in my current status, so I went to Aspen Dental. The young woman who took my x-Rays was pleasant, and tried to be gentle. I happen to be very sensitive, and the x-Rays often cause a lot of discomfort. The oral hygienist was also sensitive to my discomfort. During the perio charting she offered to stop and complete it when I came in for treatment because I would be numb. My first clue that something was off should have been when she made the comment, "I already know what I'm going to do to you, so whether I do it now or later makes no difference to me." I guess I should have wondered how she would know if she didn't perform the charting first. But I'm not a professional, so what do I know? The dentist, Dr. Mathur was also pleasant. He explained what I needed done. Then I was met with the office manager to discuss fees. I was quoted for a whopping $6,700+. The breakdown for each procedure was written out, which only adds up to $4,200. It didn't occur to me at the time because I was just trying to figure out how to come up with this money.
Later that week I called and spoke with the manager again. I asked her about a specific dental discount program before I paid the money for it. She confirmed that they accepted it, and proceeded to tell me 'ballpark' prices with the discount. I was so excited. I was going to save $1,000 alone on just one of the treatments. She told me to call back when I get member ID and she would give me exact prices. So I called back and got quoted almost twice as much as the 'ballpark' figures. Not cool. I questioned the receptionist and she said, "I don't know where she got those numbers from. The discount is never that much." So I called the discount provider and learned that they are not supposed to charge more than my fee schedule. According to the fee schedule, Aspen dental was quoting my cost at over double what it should be. I was told that a copy of my fee schedule would be faxed to Aspen Dental so that they know what to charge me. However, when I had asked the receptionist what the discounted price would be, she mentioned the original price of $1054 for a crown. I said, "well, why was I told $1116 by the manager if its only $1054?" She stated, "oh, because it's $900 (something) for the crown, and $200 (something) for the buildup. Together it equals the $1116." Now I'm confused, what was the $1054 before the discount? Oh, and I was also told with the discount plan it brought my total down to $5,000 something, however when I added the breakdown of prices it only adds up to $3,200. So again, numbers are off by $2,000. It just all felt really shady to me. So I decided that even if they charge me the proper fees according to my plan, I don't trust these people. I have zero confidence in anything I'm told, including diagnoses. I have since cancelled my appointment and will be seeing another dentist that already looks very promising. Prices quoted are exactly according to plan, yelp reviews are 5-star average. My recommendation to anyone going to Aspen Dental is just to ask questions, get clarification on everything they charge you. Don't just take things at face value, that's how people get scammed.
