| - A very strenuous hike, more so on the Echo Canyon side. NOT FOR BEGINNERS or snowbirds from Alberta who want to enjoy a leisurely hike. People die up there all the time, its that tough. From May through October the temps can be brutal, especially in June, so bring PLENTY of water. I can go through a 72oz Camelbak full of water in no time. A good rule of thumb is when your water is half done, that's your turnaround point. There is no shade, and it gets blisteringly hot, so be prepared. The last 1/4 of the mountain (on the Cholla Trail side) is pure rock scrambling, and not easy at all. Views from the summit are good, you can see the entire Valley, as well as all the outlying mountain ranges, so its worth the torture to get to the top.
