| - As someone who's been visiting La Villa infrequently over the last two decades, it's a solid but sometimes haphazard bakery.
I've read a lot about the poor staff attitudes, and... it's understating the problem. This is the biggest issue with the place. Half the time you walk in, the cashiers don't even acknowledge your presence and seem to be busy chatting in the back, and even when they do get to you, they look like they'd rather be somewhere else.
I had a bad experience trying to get information for a custom wedding cake (for my aunt's wedding reception last year) from the owner, but he never responded back to the email I sent him and never returns phone calls. There is a reason for this -- namely, he's so busy that he just doesn't have the time to call people, and I speak from experience dealing with him over several years -- but that shouldn't excuse the fact that the customer service could be much improved.
Otherwise, the food's solid and the desserts are great. This is the place to visit if you want fresh-baked baguettes or really nice cheesecakes.
If you're looking for some good Italian food, La Villa is a solid option. If you're expecting great service, look elsewhere in the village.
