I took the kids to the Family Fun Day event on April 24, 2010. The staff was very nice and were very informative. They talked about Trench Art and had the kids make anything they could think of from all the used and recycled materials there. After the kids finished their crafts we made our way to the Museum across the Lobby.
The kids absolutely loved the artifacts they saw. It was funny when my niece turned to me and said, "Wow, they could put that machine in the carrying case and "TEXT" anywhere they went." I had to inform her that what she was looking at was a typewriter and the only texting going on was the text they were typing on paper. She found that to be fascinating.
The kids enjoyed the Ground Zero Theater, which shows a brief film about the Nevada Test Site and the impact it had on Las Vegas. They also enjoyed the simulator games displayed toward the Museum Exit. There were tons of informative videos sprinkled throughout and lots of literature. We went to the museum not knowing what we would find and walked away satisfied. The Museum gave enough information to give the 8-13 yr olds I brought, an idea of what the Cold War and the purpose of Atomic Bomb Testing. They concluded that the Atomic Testing hurt people even though the Museum does not really focus too much on this. Overall, it was a good experience.
Expect to spend a few hours at the Museum if you want to fully experience all the videos and read all the literature displayed.
