  • I remember the heyday of the International Bazaar in Freeport and the international bazaar inside the Toronto West Flea Market at St. Clair Avenue West and Old Weston Road, is nothing even close. It is, however, an experience in itself. The stall holders are multinational and there are some exceptional finds here in clothing, costume jewellery, hats, bedding and a variety of just about everything else imaginable. Clothing booth 153, just steps from the side entrance, is the main attraction. Prices are lower than wholesale and merchandise is top quality and design. Most of the clothing has a brand name that is not all that well known but the clothing sold is all unique to Toronto. All of the clothing is new. There are Bob Marley sweatshirts, Toronto Maple Leaf jerseys, Caribbean themed t-shirts and NBA starter gear. Prices start at just $5 which I found to be cheaper than wholesale. I bought a Tupac Shakur in a size 4XL, which fit me beautifully. Most of the clothing, however, was in regular sizing for men, women and children. There were some funky purple socks and a huge box of Chinese hand fans painted with a Japanese design. I also bought a $5 long distance calling card for $4.50 and I had a minor repair made to my laptop. No HST is charged by any of the vendors and I bargained in most stalls as best I could. Some of the stalls were vacant and the flea market is not quite as lively as it was a few years back but it is still a fun place to check out on a Saturday or Sunday. Prices are better than any shopping mall for similar quality merchandise. Their food court has a Chinese restaurant, a Columbian restaurant serving Spanish style food and a Vietnamese soup restaurant. There is also a Trinidadian / Indian style roti shop and a few other food vendors selling various snacks. The outdoor produce market had very little local produce and most of the fruit was overripe. Prices were comparable to what would be paid in a discount supermarket and were not inexpensive enough for me to gamble on freshness. Most of the merchandise sold is new, although there is a small antique market / second hand goods section. The gold vendor is gone and has been replaced by a vendor selling illuminated house signs so this was my only real disappointment on what was a worthwhile and interesting afternoon visit.
