We brought my daughter's 2011 Soul into the service department because there was an unusual creaking noise that sounded like it was coming from the rear suspension. It was most noticeable during braking, turning, and when driving on uneven surfaces. Their initial diagnosis was that the spare tire/jack was loose and rattling around. I knew that wasn't correct, and when I pressed them to continue diagnosing the issue they produced a $500+ dollar quote to replace the rear suspension bushings. They also quoted $330 to replace ONE rear shock absorber - not both - which makes no sense and is way overpriced.
Having no faith in their diagnosis, I took the car to a small auto repair shop that I trust. Within an hour after dropping off the car, they called and said the problem was fixed at NO CHARGE. The left mounting bolt for the rear suspension torsion beam assembly was a half turn loose. They tightened it, and the noise is gone.
This experience at Peoria Kia was extremely disappointing, and unfortunately it's what I've come to expect from large service/repair businesses. To add insult to injury they also charged us $100 for the misdiagnosis. And they provided a list of recommended fluid changes and flushes that exceeded $1000. Unless my daughter's car needs a repair that would actually be covered by the remaining powertrain warranty, we'll never bring her car or any car to this dealership again.
I noticed on the back of the receipt that this is now an Earnhardt dealership, which helps explain why this experience is different - and much worse - than when it was just Peoria Kia.
