  • Yet another amazing addition to both the culinary and craft beer scenes of Cleveland. If you're looking for a top-notch foodie experience married with one of the most beautiful locations in the city and mixed up with a heaping helping of delicious, freshly brewed beer. Stop. You're reading about it. We stopped in on a random Sunday afternoon looking for an early dinner. It was about 3:30. First thing. Parking. If you're not lucky enough to land a street spot, chances are you're gonna have to fork over some cash for a monitored lot. Not a big deal, just something you need to know going in. We walked in and were immediately greeted with a smile. The space is beautiful. Incredibly high ceilings, vast amounts of natural lights streaming in from large-paned windows, and a chic but relaxed decor all make for a spot that'll have you wanting to linger. The bar was already packed when we entered but there was plenty of dining room to go around. Speaking of seating, they've got this fantastic patio that overlooks that river that I'm sure will be quite popular come the warmer months. We were seated right up against the back patio but inside. A perfect little nook. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Water's on the table so that's taken care of and he offered several suggestions for both beer and cocktails. Being our first time, we opted for a little bit of everything beer-wise. Two flights, 4-beers each covered all of the house beers. Here's a little something - a flight will set you back $10. Not a bad deal, really. The beer was perfection. No doubt, really, given the brewer's pedigree. Something like 20 years at Great Lakes Brewing, starting with them back in the early 90s and leaving in 2016 to run the brewhouse of Collision Bend, and a Siebel Institute education (that's top of the mark for a brewer). If anyone complains about the beer here they should have their head - and palate - checked. My personal favorite? The saison de Bruell. Although, their Big Cat DIPA is dangerously drinkable and reminded me of GLBC Lake Erie Monster. Oh, they've got other adult beverages, too, I just didn't care all that much. The food here is way more than pub fare. With one of Cleveland's most storied culinary families behind the creations (that's the Bruell's, btw) it's no wonder. Small plates with the likes of Asian style Arancini, pulled beef tacos, and a giant, cheese-stuffed meatball. Pizza, salads, even some larger entrees if you're extra noshy. I wanted to try everything on the menu. Here's something that bugged me. No soft pretzel. Seriously? Every brewery needs a pretzel. Enough said. We went with several snacky dishes. Starting with a cheese fondue (which doesn't appear to be on the menu anymore), the Asian-style arancini, Bibb lettuce salad, and the roasted brussels sprouts braised pork pizza. The cheese, ooey gooey dip with toasted pita was perfect with the beer, the salad was fresh, crispy and sorta healthy, and the pizza was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of char and what else do I need to say about braised pork? The real surprise was the arancini. Asian spices, pickled ginger and a side of wasabi mayo, I could have eaten these all day. Just get 'em. Trust me. So yeah, I was pretty damn impressed with our inaugural visit to CBBC. It really does have everything that you should be looking for in a brew pub - prime location, delicious food, incredible craft beer and great service. Sure, I could harp on them for some little things (*ahem* soft pretzel) but that wouldn't feel right. They're a welcome addition to the city and The Flats and I'm already planning our return visit.
