| - Ah, Café Java Mythe. My old neighborhood coffee shop. This is the place where I started appreciating coffee (and people who know me knows how much of a coffee geek I became). Many good memories here. Sadly, I moved in a different neighborhood a couple years ago and it's been difficult for me to visit.
Yesterday I was in the area and decided to stop by and see my old friend George. Surprise! George retired, and the coffeeshop was bought by his accountant. Renovated decor, more food options, extended hours. So why the two-stars rating?
I was reassured that nothing had changed otherwise. They were trained by George, and it was the same coffee supplier.
I ordered two latte, and two mini cinnamon buns. The buns were soft and chewy and very delicious. The coffee, unfortunately, was a different story as they have committed a cardinal sin for a latte: scalding the milk.
The milk was so scalded I could still not drink it half an hour later (I took it to go). Burned milk tastes weird and loses its natural sweetness.
Isolated mistake? Perhaps, but unacceptable nonetheless. I do believe they have good intentions, but the lack of experience may be problematic. If I ever go back, I will make sure to taste right away and let them know.
