  • My husband and I heard great things about 5Church so we decided to give it a try for lunch one day. The ambience is nice and it's in a great location. We didn't have any trouble parking right across the street. We started with the calamari (which was misspelled on the menu - really?!) with tomato and ghost pepper aioli. The calamari itself was fine, very tender, but the batter was a little too greasy. We expected the ghost chili aioli to have at least a little bit of spice to it, but nothing. It tasted like mayo with some paprika. My husband ordered the classic burger and he enjoyed it, cooked the way he wanted, but nothing spectacular. My real problem came with my order. I ordered the mussels and fries. If I'm in a restaurant that has moules frites on their menu, I will probably order it 95% of them time. When my mussels came out, several of the mussels were closed shut. I pushed those aside and ate the few that were open. By the end of the meal, I realized that about 60% of the mussels were closed. For those that don't know, if a mussel is closed even after being cooked, it means that it was not fresh and was dead before it was even cooked. It it not considered safe to eat these mussels. These should not be eaten, let alone served at a restaurant. I have never received a dish of moules frites with so many closed mussels. The most I've received are maybe one or two, never the majority of a dish. If a dish cannot be prepared properly and safely, it shouldn't be on a menu. I don't know that we'll be going back.
