  • Eleven is currently my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. The menu is fantastic because it is gourmet and interesting without being 'over the top' foodie with things like eye balls and tongues. I'll stick with a regular cut of meat that is dressed up a bit, thank you! Service is top-notch every time from the valets to the person refilling the water. I love all of the little extras offered at the restaurant like a coat check and the complimentary after-dinner treats. Tip: If you don't have cash, you can pay for your valet and tip the valet on your credit card with your dinner check. The wine list at Eleven is wonderful and I have yet to be disappointed by any of their reds by the glass or by the bottle. They offer a selection that caters to any wine budget, with bottles ranging from about $40 to more expensive choices that climb up to several hundred dollars. In addition to wine, I've had several cocktails and my boyfriend has had scotch, and both have been great. The food is always timed right and is cooked to perfection, with sides that are just as good as the main course. My only complaint is that there is a lot of gratuitous oil and butter on pretty much everything. I am sure they would cook things healthier if I asked, but I don't like it when everything comes out glistening. I find that the portions tend to be generous, with the exception of scallops. 2 scallops for $18? That's a bit of a racket. The menu is seasonal, so there is always something new to try when I go, which is great. That being said, I hope the spice cake is never taken off the menu as it is one of the best desserts I have ever had anywhere (I've been lucky enough to get it two visits in a row!). Four stars instead of five because the ladies room is frequently trashed and there are a few tables upstairs that are bad (a long line of 2 tops where you feel like you have to keep your arms pinned to your side to avoid bumping the stranger next to you on the booth). All in all, Eleven is superb. It is a bit pricey, but not crazy expensive and never disappoints. I hope that things stay great when Chef Derek moves on to new opportunities in a few weeks.
