| - I have been a house seats member for 8 years having lapsed memberships in-between. I recently took advantage of renewing my 4 seats membership with the 2 for 1 special. I canceled spring of 2016 and decided then I wasn't going to renew immediately since I was disappointed in the selection of shows being offered.
I renewed my membership hoping to see things have changed for the better with house seats but I was not faced with that reality. There are mixed reviews here on YELP so I wanted to add my opinion of the downturn over the years.
I looked back into my account to see the "wow, if it wasn't for house seats I couldn't have afforded to go to these shows". I was impressed and always gave thankful reviews to the emails that later followed the performances. Here are the ones that made that grade dating back to 2010. Blue Man, Jabbawockeez, Engelbert, Cher, Jubliee, LE REVE, Barry Manilow, Vince Vaughn, Juice Newton, Jersey Boys, Human Nature, Shania Twain, Rita Rudner, Cheap Trick. These shows were in venues at the Wynn, Hilton, Bally's, Venetian, Caesars, Palms, Monte Carlo, and Paris. The largest amount of shows I saw was in 2011 with 17 shows. Even then I saw some that were in the less spectacular showrooms as stated above such as the Tropicana, Planet Hollywood, Excalibur, Rio, Southpoint, and Orleans to name a few. During the hay days of my membership I would look at the "shows you missed" page and be so disappointed I missed Bill Maher, Jerry Seinfeld AGAIN!
Yes, house seats did have a hay day period! Just yesterday I was talking to someone that said she once LOVED house seats. She would get tickets to shows at Buffalo Bills in Primm and even a room. It was an a mini staycation. For me, it was a chance for my husband to have a nice date night with a great show at the Wynn and dinner afterwards. I was checking the website all the time for the next opportunity for a date night or a show to treat my out of town friends. Currently, I look at the "shows you missed" and think "meh, no big deal" That's why I am giving this 2 star review. A 2 star YELP review means Meh, I've experience better.
These higher end venues and shows are no longer the norm on their selections. My opinion is when the recession hit hard in Las Vegas showrooms had seats to fill and house seats where given prime shows. Now, with the economy on the up and up the hotels are able to fill the showrooms with more paid customers. It's not only with house seats. When was the last time you saw a TV commercial or got a postcard in the mail announcing LOCALS ONLY 2 for 1 show special at a major hotel. Why? Because they don't need to. This is the perhaps the same reason house seats no longer get the "wow" shows. The shows that get offered more often or are always on the board now are middle of the road venues. I wonder why then, house seats has not lowered their membership rates. Before old time members would be so excited. All I hear is how unhappy they are with the shows. The new members that have joined recently don't have anything to compare it to. However, the old time members can see a big decline.
Not every show is going to appeal to everyone. That is one factor that keeps house seats alive. The 20-40 year old crowd may enjoy the grunge bands, club crawls and no name
bands that seem to be all to common on the website now. The middle aged member, like me, have to wait around for that lucky chance to see a show we would appreciate. I can't blame house seats because they are offering what they get. It's up to you to decide if it's worth it and how much you are expecting to get out of it.
All in all, house seats is becoming a second choice for entertainment for me. I no longer depend on it as I once did. Even though I have to pay but still at a discount I use Groupon, Living Social and Travel Zoo. Most recently I saw an advertisement for PLUG-IN offering $7, 2 seat monthly memberships for the same concept as house seats. I am giving them a try. I see some of the same shows there however, house seats offer more on a daily bases.
Oh heck, just like anything else, if I really want something I'll pay full price for it. No different with a show.
