  • My husband and I shop at Giant Eagle at least once a week. Usually at the Waterworks, Shadyside Market Distrcit, or Route 8 in Gibsonia - all convenient to our daily routines. We purposely do not use self check lines because people need jobs. Today, we needed a loaf of bread and $250 of Amazon Gift Cards to make an online purchase. Our travels brought us close to the Murray Avenue location. I picked up what I needed and went to the 12 items or less line - which was lite as open. There was no cashier so I checked other lines - all backed up with customers. I went back to the 12 item line and asked the bagger if there was a cashier. He called to Alicia who was standing looking out the window at the sidewalk construction underway outside. Alicia turned and looked at me with a significant amount of disdain. As my husband and I always do, I said "hello" and asked how she was doing. She glared at me again. Then she asked for my ID. She indicated I could not buy gift cards without ID. I told her that I would have to go to the car and get it, that I was paying with debit not credit and that I had never had this problem before. She continued to mumble about ID will she finished the transaction. I should have made a scene and dropped the order the way she smashed my load of bread when bagging it. I was tempted to stop at the service desk and complain about her demeaning attitude when she began to display a similar attitude to the next woman in line, an older senior citizen trying to complete her errands. I was so upset I did not think that I would give a rational explanation. So, I came home, calmed down and wrote this review. I did nothing to this cashier except show up her store to purchase two items - bread and gift cards. I will not go back to this location again. I am sure that won't hurt Giant Eagle or Alicia. But, it is the only thing under my power. Sad that Alicia felt the only thing within her power was to belittle the people who were doing something so simple as completing their day's errands. Obviously from other reviews, bad service is nothing new and Giant Eagle isn't able to do anything about it.
