  • While on a cross country motorcycle trip, a friend noticed a small pool of oil under my 2002 Goldwing. Ridenow was the closest shop and so I took it there on a Thursday morning and explained it had to be picked up Saturday because I was leaving Monday morning (the store is closed Sunday and Monday). Apparently, they have a policy that they do not work on motorcycles over 10 years old. However, they agreed to work on the Wing. Saturday afternoon I had still not received a call from Ridenow so I called them. They said the technician was working on it and that they would give me a call when the problem was diagnosed. No call and hour and a half later so I showed up at the store. The service manager went back to the shop and returned in a few minutes to tell me the mechanic was working on it now. Fifteen minutes later I was told they could not find the problem and asked if I wanted the oil changed. I said yes (was going to get it changed mid-way anyway and I was hoping something like the drain plug had loosened up). Unfortunately, they did not accidentally fix the problem which turned out to be a small crack in the transmission cover which is located right next to the drain plug. It should have been obvious where the leak was emanating from. When I found this out, it caused me to doubt that anything had actually been done to the bike. While waiting, I found out that the store had been there for a long time although there was a fairly recent change in ownership. By all appearances, it was a well run, professionally managed facility. Perhaps they were just too busy to get to my motorcycle in 2 and a half days. Whatever the reason, my experience was that their communication was lacking and they were not able to identify the obvious cause of the issue I came in for. Knowing that I was heading to San Diego and then back to Virginia, it was disappointing that they did not put a little more effort into ensuring that the Goldwing was as safe as it could be.
