Decent French Pastry place uptown.
So what is all this rave about Duo? I totally agree this is not an authentic French bakery. What I can really call it is French-inspired with some Asian influence. Let's get down to the nitty-gritty:
1. Yuco? Yuzu cheesecake with coconut nectar and Yuzu mango confit. What I found with this dessert is that it is more asian inspired with the flavours of coconut, yuzu and mango. It is very light not rich at all. My only criticisum is that I don't taste too much of the coconut in the mousse. The yuzu and mango flavours are pretty strong and compliments the crust.
2. The Hazel: Chocolate mousse ring on top of shortbread disk with sesame seeds. The presentation of this one is really nice. Chocolate mousse with a shiny layer of chocolate ganache on top and some gold flakes. The mousse is really rich I can definitely tell it is made from good quality chocolates. My issue with this is that it really didn't compliment the sesame disk. The sesame disk reminds me of those asian sesame crackers and was not the rich fine taste I was looking for. I think a normal almond or hazelnut crust would easily compliment.
3. Lemon tart? Good balance of lemon sour and sweetness, not too sweet. Good texture balances w the crust. Not amazing, just very normal. I can make this at home.
I understand that you don't want to make too many varieties in terms of selection to showcase your best. However, the ones I have tried did not wow me. I guess I have not tried the Mont Blanc yet. With the limited selection... Is it enough to open a store? Customer service and packaging of store and product very nice, just need to upgrade the product.
