  • Simplicity is a fantastic business plan with a great product and. . . well, a way overbooked schedule. The positives: *It works. I've done probably seven treatments now (of the twelve or so they say I'll need for full hair removal) and there is a marked difference in the speed my hairs, the density of it, and even the hair itself-- it's way more fine and way more soft than before (which makes shaving easier). *It's cheap. Laser hair removal costs an arm and a leg back in California where I'm from. A little research has explained why Simplicity can be so cheap: in California, a doctor has to administer laser hair removal-- in Nevada, a licensed, trained esthetician can do it. Now, Simplicity attempts to negate your fears about having someone less experienced doing it by having their practice in rented rooms within doctors offices--- but don't be fooled, you're never going to so much as see a doctor. Anyway, I think I pay $80 a month or something for a full Brazilian, under arms, and upper lip. The term of the contract is 18 months and during that time, I can get unlimited treatments. . . but we'll discuss that a little later. *The laser techs are super nice and make what can very easily be an awkward situation more pleasant. The bad: *Appointment availability. Now, I still in California, but have an office in Las Vegas that I visit every two weeks-- the folks at Simplicity told me I could very easily schedule appointments during the time I'm in town, so I signed with them. Fast forward to a year or so later and I'll be darned if I can get a freaking appointment. Stuff is booked *MONTHS* out.- which is really insane when you think about the fact that each appointment is usually no more than 10 to 15 minutes and they are booked back to back to back all day. While you're supposed to go 6 weeks between laser appointments, I frequently end up going 10 or more because I just can't get in to see somebody. I'm at the point where I'm going to write to them and request my contract be terminated if there aren't more options-- because I'm paying for a service I can't use due to their overbooking. *Lack of flexibility. When I started with Simplicity, there were two Las Vegas offices and it was suggested I go to Henderson because they have the laser appropriate for darker skin tones. Fabulous. Now, there is at least one more office open in town. Due to the extreme booking issues, I asked if I could perhaps go to another office in town and was told that's not allowed. Awesome. *Pain. There's no way to sugar coat it: laser hair removal *hurts* and don't let anybody tell you any different. I have a crazy high pain tolerance-- I'm that chick that can carry on a happy and cheerful conversation mid bikini wax-- and even I am reduced to tears from the laser on occasion. Here's the thing: you're going to think I'm dumb because the first 4 or 5 times, it doesn't really hurt much at all. In fact, you'll probably be like me and tell all your friends how painless it is. But the thing is that they turn up the laser each time you go in. . . so around session six or seven, you will be horrified. There are ways to mitigate the pain-- prescription numbing creams, etc. After a lot of internet research, my system is: Advil an hour before, numbing cream rubbed on the areas (a tech at Simplicity suggested Analeeze of all things and it definitely works better for laser pain than any drug store numbing cream), and ice! Ice is key! They have little ice packs in the room at Simplicity in a tiny freezer-- you must insist on using them. No one told me about them until many many treatments in-- this should be standard practice for everybody, because the ice is amazing. With this system, I can't feel a thing, which is fabulous. Overall, I have up until this point sung the name of Simplicity from the rooftops-- sending all kinds of friends their way for hair removal. But I just can't with this whole scheduling issue- that's just bad business. Looking around the internet at reviews for other Simplicity centers, it looks like this is a common problem. Get it together, Simplicity! **UPDATE**: I just wanted to update this review as my 18 month contract is just about up. In those 18 months, I was able to schedule seven appointments. SEVEN. Since my review went up, I was never able to make another appointment. That's how bad the scheduling became toward the end there. My hair is more sparse and growing in much slower. . . but it's still there. I'm not sure I feel like I really got my money's worth here. Simplicity is great if you have an INCREDIBLY flexible schedule. . . but other than that, I'd skip it.
