| - I'm surprised that Sweet Tooth has such a poor rating! No, this was definitely not the best dessert experience I've had, but I have certainly had much, much worse.
We walked in here after having spent the entire afternoon walking and eating on the Danforth. We were craving something sweet and were excited when we saw this adorable looking bakery/cafe. The place has a mix of cakes, cookies, tarts, bars, pies, cupcakes... you can most likely find something in here to satisfy anyones sugar cravings.
We ogled and drooled for a good 5 minutes before making our choices:
Dulce de Leche cheesecake with berries and cream, plus espresso machiato for my mom, Chocolate cake and mint teat for me.
The cheesecake was delicious! Yum,yum, yum! In fact I ate half the cheesecake before I even touched my chocolate slice. ( thx goodness this is my mom, or I'm sure anyone else would have slapped my hand off their cheesecake, the way I was inhaling the stuff!).
The chocolate cake was disappointing. The cake was fluffy and light, however it was also dry. The frosting, was well...meh. It tasted like the stuff you get from a Betty Crocker tin. However, my opinion may have been somewhat swayed by the fact that I already had consumed half a slice of delicious cheesecake, and my sugar cravings were already pretty satisfied at this point.
The mint tea was seriously good and refreshing, and provided a good balance for all the sugar I was consuming. My mom said the espresso was good, however I did not try it, so you'll just have to take her word for it.
Now the bad: the berries and whipped cream dollop the cheesecake came with was an extra $2.50! Yes, you read that right, $2 flipping .50! And this was seriously about a tablespoon of blueberries and 2 strawberries and a tsp of cool whip. WTF? (This seemed even more ridiculous after I bought a carton of strawberries from a fruit stand for $1.00 on my way home. A whole carton ppl!) LUDICROUS!
Also, each the cheesecake slice and choc cake slice were about $6-$7 each, which is pretty high, specially for choc cake that tasted like it came out of a box and that I could have made at home in my pj's for about $5.00.
I also purchased a whole strawberry-rubharb pie that is supposed to be so good, it won an award. I'll be feeding it to friends this weekend, so the verdict is still to be decided. I had a friend coming over for a visit who is rather finicky about dessert, so I also purchased a mini chocolate lava cake for her, and she made yummy noises as she ate it, so I'm assuming it was good.
The bill for the two slices, plus one whole pie, one mini lava cake, a tea, and an espresso came to $45.00. So definitely not a cheap dessert option, but also not too bad for all the stuff I got.
I also HAVE to mention that they have gluten free options here, so anyone with a gluten/wheat allergy can indulge their Sweet Tooth (Ha Ha!) here :)
