| - I reported an AC problem to our home warranty company, AHS, on 4-22-16. The first company assigned came on 4-25. The technician assessed the outside unit for about 10 minutes and reports that there was a restriction in the coil and that the level of freon couldn't be assessed because of the restricted coil. I was not satisfied with this diagnosis since we had ongoing problems since 2013 with freon leaks. I called our home warranty company again on 4-26 and was advised I could get a second opinion. The contractor assigned was Consolidated Mechanical Contractors. I got a call from CMC n 4-27 to schedule an appointment and the earliest was for Friday, 4-29. Walter arrived around 7am and was at our home for about an hour. He appeared to be very thorough. He checked the actual unit outside but spent most of his time in the attic crawl space trying to find a leak in the coil. He reported that he found a leak in the evaporative coil and that it would need to be replaced. He also indicated that the system would need 11# of freon (R-22) and that the cost per pound was $75 and that we would be responsible for $65 per pound since our home warranty only pays $10/lb. that's when the merry-go-round started. I called AHW around 10:00am on Monday, 5-2 only to be told that they were waiting for the diagnosis from CMC. They called CMC while I was waiting on the phone and was told that the diagnosis would be in before the end of the day. At 3:00 I spoke to AHS and they again called CMC and was told the diagnosis would be in the next morning. At 10:15 on Tuesday morning I called AHS. They still had not heard from CMC. They said they spoke to the service manager, John, and that he needed to send Walter back out to do a nitrogen test to confirm where the leak was. I found that odd since Walter told me on Friday that he had located the leak point. Walter appeared at 12:30, without calling first, to check the leak. I asked him why he has to come again since he had told me on Friday that he found the leak. He said he was just doing what he was told to do. That pretty much signaled to me that this trip was just another delay and totally unnecessary. I called AHS at 4:15. They still had no report but again called CMC only to be told I would have a diagnosis on Wednesday morning, 5-4. On 5-4 at 11:30 I again called AHS. They still had no report and again called CMC. I asked about a "cash out" process because at this point, I can't even think of having CMC handle our issue. She explained that they had to have a diagnosis and cost appraisal before they could have an Operations Specialist report back to me. She called CMC while I waited on the phone and told me I should get a Call from CMC in the afternoon but that she would follow up with me before she went off work for the day. That lady at AHS called me back at 2:00 and was disturbed that I still hadn't heard from CMC. She was sending a report to Contract Relations to outline my complaints and concerns. At 1:35 the scheduler from CMC called and asked to schedule an appointment...but then said, no, wait, we were already out there. That again confirmed my concern and asked that The service manager call me. John called at 4:00 and wanted to schedule the repair. I asked him to give me the diagnosis and the costs. He said $825 for 11# of refrigerant and the. Upon more questioning said around $400 for the cars coil and about $200 for labor. Asked about the restricted coil outside and he said that would be about $60. I told him I would now be waiting for a call from AHS to see what they would offer for the cash out. I told him how frustrated I was with their company and asked if he was aware of how many negative reviews there were on Yelp. He the said that if I just wanted to beat him up, he didn't need to carry on the conversation any further. I now wait for AHS to call. Obviously I am venting but the initial report was on April 22 and it is now May 4 and still no air conditioning and temperatures at 101 today! I'm not sure if I will continue on with the home warranty company but I do know I will not allow CMC to enter my home again.
