  • My wife and I were married in April of this year. We didn't have a big budget so I decided to take the professionally shot wedding photos and make my own album. I read tons of reviews on do-it-yourself photo album websites and decided to go with Shutterfly. I spend hours trying to make everything look just right. I selected what I thought were the best options (paper quality, etc.) before placing my order. The first thing I noticed was the cover photo was very washed out. It was much lighter than the original. The rest of the photos inside the album didn't look anything like the prints we purchased from Costco (highly recommended). Like the album cover, they were not as sharp or colorful as the original photos. I contacted Shutterfly customer service asking what I could have done to improve the quality of my photo album. I was told that I should have made sure I had the album the way I wanted it before I clicked Submit. A few days later I received another email from a customer service supervisor who informed me that Shutterfly would remove a filter and reprint my albums at no charge. Great! When I received them, the cover photo was a little more vivid, but the inside photos looked basically the same. $180 later, I have two photo albums that I'm embarrassed to show anyone. I think the problem is that Shutterfly doesn't use photo quality paper (so I've read). The pictures look dull compared to the originals. I hate to think that I spend that many hours (I'm guessing at least 20) editing the photos themselves and designing the album to just let it go. My plan is to try an AdoramaPix photo book. From what I've read, they have a good product. Shutterfly might be good if you want something cheap and don't care so much for the quality (say a kid's birthday party or vacation), but not for a wedding album.
