Monty's was closed for renovations so I decided to cross the street and try Lao Laan-Xang for the first time. Comfortable low-key atmosphere, a little cramped once the dining room filled up. There is a nice-sized menu and vegetarian foods are clearly marked. Many dishes can be modified to vegan or have meat added/omitted. You choose spice level from Timid to Native Laoation. Egg rolls were plump, fresh and crispy, and served with a sweet & spicy sauce. Based on our server's recommendation we saved leftover sauce to add to our entrees. Dining companion's mock duck--native laoation spice--was served with a pool of brown sauce and nice variety of vegetables, and he advised it was especially tasty with the addition of beef. I ordered a vegetarian coconut curry dish spiced "careful" (level 2) with rice and was pleased with the flavors, especially once the leftover sauce from my egg roll was mixed in. When ordering the dish again I would go 1-2 levels spicier. We went elsewhere for dessert as they were out of mango lime pie. Hope to try it when we come back again!
