At $20 for a ticket in the main bowl, you can have first row seats at a fraction of the cost of most other entertainment. This is quality hockey - at least as good as we're going to get in Calgary right now. Games this season seem a bit more busy, perhaps due to people trying to get their fill of hockey in spite of the NHL lockout. The Calgary Flames own the Hitmen now though, so it really doesn't make a big difference.
One of the original founders of the Hitmen was Bret "The Hitman" Hart, and that's where the inspiration for their name came from.
As far as the venue goes, there could be improvements. The saddledome is showing her age and either needs some updating or replacement (as rumored). The food isn't the greatest, and the beer selection is subpar. But I can't dock the Hitmen stars for this, because they play in the best arena that is currently available in Calgary.
All in all, if you are looking for an inexpensive night out, eat first and then snag some Hitmen tickets. You won't be disappointed!
