| - Gibbys is a sentimental favourite for me. As a student, we celebrated graduations and birthdays here, and my husband brought me here the night he proposed. We hadn't been back in about 10 years, so we were overdue for a return visit. We brought my parents and my 14 year old daughter. The decor is exactly the same, rustic and charming but slightly frayed around the edges. Service is a delight, attentive and professional. Steaks were very good. They are on the pricey side, but the thing I like about Gibbys is that they include starter and sides with their steaks. I have a real gripe with steak houses that charge you $60 for a steak and can't throw a potato and a few greens on your plate for free.
My mom had the salmon and said it was excellent. It was a huge serving and enough for lunch the next day.
Mom and dad both enjoyed Irish coffees after the meal, expensive at $16 each, but prepared table side with a flourish, so worth a splurge. The one disappointment of the night was my daughter's profiteroles, the pastry was stale and they went largely uneaten.
It's comforting to have a few places that never change... stay classy, Gibbys.
