| - For picking a hotel at the last minute, we couldn't have chosen better. Our vacation plans unexpectedly changed, and we decided to venture from Detroit to Cleveland. We noticed this hotel was right downtown and not terribly expensive, so we booked- especially after inquiring if it was located within walking distance of certain destinations such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (which it is). For 179-199 per night (went up when we decided to stay another night as it was Friday and the night of a baseball and football game), it was a great deal.
The room was standard, but great. Comfy king size bed, big tv, kitchen area, desk, couch, bar, and bathroom. We even were given a fireplace room despite not even requesting one! Our room on the 3rd floor did not have a view but that did not bother me personally. I am sure if we asked for a room with a view, they would have accommodated us if possible. We were in a more secluded part of the hotel and it was quiet, which was great. Friday night around midnight, our neighbors were fighting VERY loudly, but we called the front desk and they had security up to their room within minutes! That speaks volumes of their service.
On the note of service, the front desk attendant (I believe his name was AJ?) was very friendly and helpful. We mentioned we were there for the first time on vacation and he was happy to offer lots of suggestions. The people of Cleveland by and large were happy to have visitors and wanted to share their city.
On Tues-Wed-Thurs nights they have events from 6-7:30. These are complimentary, and when we were there (Thursday) it was the "Manager's Social". This entailed FREE beer and wine and light appetizers. Yes, you read that right. Amazing! The woman behind the bar was friendly and even walked over to our table to get us refills! This was a huge highlight of our visit. If you are there on a Thursday, do not miss it!
In my opinion, the continental breakfast was better than standard. They had hot foods as well as the traditional cold foods. I enjoyed that they had oatmeal and various toppings that you could apply yourself.
Overall, the Residence Inn was a great value and helped our vacation to Cleveland be excellent as could be. The central location was yet another amazing selling point- it was within minutes of walking to the sports venues, R&R Hall of Fame, the lake, W. 6th Street, and public transit. The only downside was that there is no free wifi. There is free wired internet but only one cable. This worked fine for us, so it does not affect my rating. If you need wifi or more than one computer online, you would have to pay. Also parking at $18 per night seemed a little steep but probably was not, not sure on the comparisons- just remember to count that in your hotel budgeting.
