| - Lee's in Boca Park is a rock-solid store, in a local liquor chain. This review is for that store.
The staff is always friendly and very helpful if you're looking for something and don't know where it is. While they don't have the largest selection, they have all the essentials, and quite a decent assortment of some of the less common wines, liquors, pre-mixed cocktails and secondary ingredients for making mixed drinks. Even though there's a large competitor very near by, Lee's prices are overall competitive.
The reason I'm giving Lee's three stars instead of a higher score: they seem to be inconsistent with special orders, or even orders for things they carry that they can't keep in stock. Two examples: Lee's carries one of our favorite vodkas and had it consistently on the shelf for years. Then suddenly they never seemed to have it even though the spot on the shelf and signs remained in place. After a couple months (!) of asking and being told more would come in the next delivery, then being told it was was selling out immediately after delivery (possible but a bit unbelievable since they should know to increase the order), then not holding a bottle or two out for me when the delivery is made, they finally told me it was a problem with the distributor...a bit strange since other liquor stores in the area still always had an ample supply. I finally contacted the distillery directly and asked if they were aware of a problem with the distributor in Las Vegas. The answer was what I expected: no. They said they'd confirm it though and called their rep in Las Vegas who reported back that the Lee's store I was frequenting hadn't ordered the vodka in months. The company told me the distributor would contact Lee's and within a week it was back on the shelves. I'm not sure where the breakdown really was, but it seemed odd that a customer could fix the problem with a single email while the Lee's was apparently unable to fix it for months. I also attempted a special-order through this store. We were after something a bit unique and Lee's told us they could get it. Great! I'd rather buy through them since they're local. We ordered several bottles. The order never came in. After asking about it several times and being told the order was still in the system, they couldn't explain why it was taking so long. (Again, even though other stores in the area had this on their shelves.) The last time I asked about the order, I was told I didn't have a special order in the system. I had the impression the order was probably canceled since we were hitting a point that it seemed they couldn't get it, but no one called to let me know.
If it weren't for these issues, I would easily rate Lee's with four stars, and possibly five. I want to end by reemphasizing the positives though: the selection is fine for most everything you'll probably need and the staff alone at the Boca Park location is overall fantastic. They know where everything is, they're always friendly and it's a very rare day that I'm not greeted with a heartfelt "hello" when I walk into the store. This is what keeps me coming back to Lee's first rather than going to a competitor.
