| - To begin, I really like that they are a roaster first-and-foremost; they have a board listing recent roasts, including origin, how dark, and its most recent roast date. There is a nice selection of options, and they are sold in full pound as well as sample sizes. The ambiance is nice, sort of 'cozy' on the inside with the pleasant garden seating. I do wish the owner and baristas were more chatty; my attempts (during a lull) to talk about the roasting and the coffee fell flat. I've had more excited baristas at Starbucks.
When it comes to actually *making* espresso, they beat out Starbucks, tie Coffee Rush, but lose to Liberty Market across the street, which has to be taken into consideration. I ordered a double, no milk, sugar, foam, etc. and I was served some bitter espresso (more than 2oz too), with a thin and pale crema that disappeared quickly. So enjoy Bergies for their more exotic coffee in a pour-over method.
I also keep thinking my espresso would have been better if the owner had made it, because I took a pound of "espresso roast" home and have been enjoying it in my Quick Mill machine where I can carefully control temperature and the grind.
