  • Arizona summers are HOT, no joke as you all know it's usually between 105'-120' June-Sept so I was super excited to check out Big Surf. I checked out their website in advance so I'd be well prepared for our visit. Some in our group had dietary restrictions (vegan/gluten free) so I called ahead to ask if we could bring in our own food. Apparently you can, but you must tell them upfront and they'll keep your food in the First aid area, which is where you must also eat your food. Some people I noticed just kept a cooler in their car and ate out in the parking lot which is also an option. I felt the parking lot is not that far to walk just to grab your lunch. I also felt important for others to note as so many people have dietary restrictions these days. They do offer food/drinks of course at the park, more than anticipated too. Pizzas, sandwiches, pretzels, icecream (dipping dots and regular ice cream!). I did feel the icecream 1 scoop was enough and so creamy, delicious on a hot day! I also was under the assumption you could only bring in water in a clear container but turns out you can bring your own cups (I love the ones all us Arizonians use, silver big cups that stay cold for 24+hrs) Oh yes! Bring it, just bring it empty, take it to the icecream area and they will fill it with ice and water for you. It makes sense, otherwise I guess ppl would sneak in alcohol in their cups. Not me, more water in summer time please. OK, so we got there about 11:30 and found a nice spot under the umbrellas and a couple chairs. We laid out our towels for the day and it was perfect, no one bothered our stuff. We did rent a small locker for $8 which was enough for a medium size backpack, sun tan lotions and xtra change of clothes. The rides were fun too. As an adult visiting without small children I still felt there was enough for us to do. Maybe 4-5 slides? I liked them all, not too much, not too little however I do have a concern. We rode the black hole (SO MUCH FUN!!!) and at the end of the tunnel our tube with 2 people hit a small child that had apparently gotten stuck towards the end (maybe not enough weight?) and he literally flew off the end of the ride and onto the pavement! He was not hurt but the fact that someone was not paying attention to this really frightened me, he could've been seriously hurt! Thank goodness he got lucky. It totally freaked me out because I was not expecting that and we were both startled. Just so glad he was ok. It did take the lifeguard a bit to come up to him and check on him. If I was that child's parents I'd been pissed. Aside from this incident, I found the staff to be overall friendly, helpful and overall great! I'd noticed in other reviews comments on the staff being rude, but that is not my experience at all especially after visiting several areas of the park to ask questions or need assistance. I will definitely be returning and of course got the season pass! Also, note that even though the park is open till 9/3/18, after 8/4 they are only open on the weekends. I don't believe it's listed on their website so just putting it out there for those of you who prefer to come on the weekdays when it's not so busy. Hope this review helps some of you who had some questions about visiting.
