| - Oakmont Bakery is one of those quintessential Pittsburgh bakeries, most of which I visited while living here. Funnily enough, as this one was not very public transportation accessible, I never made it here. So when my parents recommended stopping here on Christmas Eve, I was game. At 8:00 AM it was total chaos. However, we were greeted with smiling employees and a very efficient line system! I would definitely give them the title of friendliest Pittsburgh Bakery.
To put it mildly, we ordered a ton of things for a grand total of $29. This included: Bagels (Rye, Sourdough, Bacon and cheese, Asagio, and Sundried Tomato), a dozen croissant-type dinner rolls, 2 Cappuccino cupcakes, Red velvet cupcake, Mini Tiramisu, Pecan Roll, Raspberry Puff, Cinnamon Roll, and a Vanilla doughnut w sprinkles. There may have been one other thing, but as you can see, it was really reasonably priced.
So how was everything? The bagels weren't my favorite NYC type bagels, but the flavors were great and the bagels very doughy. Skip the bacon and cheese (lacked flavor), but the rest were delicious! The cupcakes were a bit sweet for my taste because Oakmont loves its icing, but despite this, the desserts were very good. If you are not an icing person, be careful what you order. I needed to split the cupcakes. I really enjoyed the Cappuccino cupcake. I also loved that the red velvet had edible sparkles!! So cute.
All in all, this bakery steps it up on having multiple good products, beautiful displays, and reasonable prices. I just wish I didn't have to drive to all of the way to Pittsburgh to get the desserts!
