  • No amount of good food could make up for the debacle that was La Bon Bistro's free lunch buffet. I know, I know, the first thing you're gonna say is, "Hey, it's free so what do you expect?" If the whole point is for me to come back and actually spend my pennies at their establishment, I expect at least good to excellent. So here it is. My friend and I went to La Bon hoping to get a sample of their free buffet. I've never been here and love coming across new places to try. The buffet started at 11:30am, my friend and I arrived at 11:15am and there was already a small line. No problem since I knew I wasn't the only one to get the memo. However, I guess I didn't get the memo about making a reservation to this free buffet, neither did 99% of the people waiting in line. I found the fact that you could even make a reservation to an event like this odd to say the least. The restaurant was already full by the time we got there. Anyway, since most of the people in line did not make a reservation they either left or put their name on a waiting list to get inside; the wait, I was told, was an hour. We decided we'd wait (since I'd driven all the way from Monroe, NC, but little did we know we had a special wait. Get this, two parties that arrived AFTER us were seated BEFORE us because they were trying to seat us at a table for the baby. Oh I didn't mention that, we had a baby with us and apparently, unbeknownst to us there are special tables that can accommodate babies, GO FIGURE! Being that that was one of the dumbest things we'd ever heard, we told them to seat us at a "tap" table which of course was perfectly fine with a high chair. I still chuckle at how idiotic this was. The whole process was so unorganized and it showed. We had to ask for silverware, water, and water refills. To top everything off, the food was so mediocre. I was truly dumbstruck at this point. The only good thing, and I do mean only, were the meatballs. If the options at the free buffet are going to be on their regular buffet, I truly couldn't see myself paying $10.00 for it anyway. Maybe their other offerings are great, but based on my experience I will never find out.
