| - I pay a decent chunk o' change for internet service and it's great! Until, Cox throttles the connection at random times. COX... their name says it all.
My family streams video (legally) and does some minor online gaming. I've checked the Cox website under my account and found we use a good portion of our data usage cap (250GB) per month, but rarely reach it. On certain days we will lose connection ranging from a quick modem reset to several hours. On the days connection loss occurs it may happen once that day or it could be multiple times for varying lengths of time.
It seems random, but it's frequent enough where we feel that we are being taken advantage of with poor service. I called Cox months ago when I first experienced this broken service and addressed the problem. LOW AND BEHOLD, after spending a ridiculous amount of time on hold, the rep seemed to intuitively know what I was describing and suddenly we didn't have ANY further issues with connectivity!
That is, until Game of Thrones season rolled around and we upped our package to include cable with HBO. After the season ended, so did my cable subscription. As soon as I dropped cable and went back to streaming Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime, here appears the connectivity problem again. I can almost swear they flag accounts streaming video over the net, in order to promote their other costly cable service. Pretty sad when I pay Cox a premium for internet service and make use of it within my data allowance, also pay a premium to Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime (who also pay the cable company a premium for their high bandwidth usage) and I'm having to make phone calls to make my service as it should be in the first place, without interruption from the provider by the provider.
Terrible service all around. As soon as a viable alternative becomes available this company will lose all future business with me.
