| - This is for First Shots by NSSF and or gun newbies:
I heard of this class by radio and I think it's a great intro to firearms or supplemental formal info to someone who has shot before.
I am not new to firearms. My boyfriend has carried CCW for 7 years now and competes IDPA. He has been my teacher (and I'm glad to know that he covered fundamentals well) but I wanted to "empty my cup" and take a formal class. This was the best opportunity - and it was FREE.
I've shot rifles, shotgun, and semiauto 9mm, .45acp, and .40S&W. But I've never shot a revolver. Holding one, loading, unloading it were all new to me. I could take apart 9mm pistols...I was not familiar with a .22 pistol which slide doesn't "slide" traditionally or a magazine that has a lever for reloading. My point is that there is always something to learn. This class is hands on so you get a feel for both and pick your preference. You learn safety handling for both types in class and while on the range, storage, parts of the gun, ammunition, stance, gripping, trigger safety, sight alignment, and more. For someone absolutely foreign to guns, besides media coverage, it's a lot of information, but it's safety focused throughout. It covered topics efficiently and James T., the instructor, was personable and knowledgable. Funny guy.
Note: Firearms used for practice were semiauto and revolver, both .22. Again, FREE to take First Shots by NSSF. Register online for availability.
