I'm sorry I didn't understand why the reviews of this place were so good. Very much disappointed.
Venue - There is nothing remarkable about this place. It is pretty worn-down. The entrance is very easy to miss. As you climb up a narrow staircase you reach the counter where you pay your cover. Behind it, there are people dancing in front where the band plays. The washrooms are behind the band playing area. The rest of the place is a very narrow passage which has been encroached by the bar counter on one side and the staircase that led you up on the other. The view to the band playing is restricted by people dancing as well by the protruding corner of the staircase. Who wants to see the band playing, you are just there to listen..right? It is dark and dingy, and not meant to be a music venue. It is rectangular and narrow and the acoustics are terrible.
Crowd - Most of the crowd was either in their 50s and a few terribly wasted teenagers. Seemed like this place had a reputation of being a pick-up joint.
Music - We were there on Saturday night and the music wasn't good at all, even to the point that the Shazam app wasn't able to recognize the songs being played. You would expect places to bring on their A-game on, we did too. But it wasn't to be.
Bar - The service was quick. There were 3 only draught beer to choose from Amsterdam, Steam Whistle and Guinness. Didn't try the spirits, maybe the choices available were more than beer.
It was partly our fault too that we didn't do our research properly before visiting. The only good that came out of it was that we started appreciating The Rex more.
