| - New to the area, I had tried several places; when I saw reviews for Pearl, I thought this might be "the one" (Despite the negative reviews. - which I now "get" completely!). Wrong. Yes, it has a nice spa look to it upon entering; yes, I was greeted right away; yes, I was seated right away (I did call about a half hour before to see if they had room for me, and asked to make an appointment.). While there were only a couple of people in the chairs for pedicures when I got there, it was soon full, and even though most of the technicians seemed to be occupied with manicures at the manicure bar (nice touch), more people were added to the fray. When I checked in, I could also tell there was a little disagreement about who was supposed to do my nails, and several times while I was there, there was much discussion about how to get each person served, and much jumping back and forth among the techs, which I found to be disconcerting. There was a little too much non-English banter during my visit, as well. While my technician seemed interested (and constantly apologetic, which made me feel odd), I had to ask for a design, and remind them I wanted a manicure (which seemed to cause another little rumble) even though I made appt, for mani/pedi.
The spa pedicure is a little pricey in my opinion, as is the mani, but they do give discounts, so I didn't complain, even though they made me feel as if I made a poor choice not getting gel polish. Not until my last hand was being polished did I get an offer of water. Last, but not least...I like for my cuticles to be pushed back on my toes, which wasn't really done - one of my big toes looked dorky because the polish at the cuticle line and the nail itself was slanted (and I didn't realize it until the tech was finished.) Then somehow, while she was manipulating my hand around to face the fan, one of my thumbs was smudged. When she noticed it, the tech just polished right over it and said to let it dry. It looked pretty bad, so I asked her to re-do it, after sitting there for several minutes waiting to be checked, because she had asked me to pay before polishing and had moved on to another client. She apologized, but I sort of felt like leftovers, you know?
Nail polish: chipped and peeling off within two days on my hands, and I was purposely taking it easy. Toes...looked like they were a week old by the same time, because the cuticles weren't pushed back.
The people are nice. And the shop is nice. But a little less chaos would have made my visit more relaxing.
