| - This review is specific to the CBSA and the process of entry from a US flight, as I am not a NEXUS participant (didn't even know what that was until I saw this and had to research it). As a US citizen who has only ever traveled to Mexico, I am used to what I consider quick travel times (depending on the line of people coming back... +/- 10 to 15 minutes). I had never traveled north of the border and on my flight from Salt Lake City, I started looking into customs wait times and things at the airport (should have started that research before I even booked my flight I guess, but...). All of the blogs that I saw talked about how there were passport machines that could expedite the process of entry, but it appeared that they were only for people who had joined NEXUS or were Canadian citizens. When I walked into the customs area, I was surprised to be sent to the machine/computer line as I had never been there before. But it turns out that any US passport holder can use the machine, so that helps with the wait time. Also, on the plane they give you a form to make your "declarations" in order to help slim down the process, so that helps as well. Anyways, got my print out from the machine, took it to the border officer and he made quick work of questioning me and moved me along (especially since I only had carry on luggage) to the 2nd officer. When I go to the end of the luggage area I provided the paperwork to the 3rd officer and was out the door. I have to say that overall, I found this to be quicker and felt "safer" than when I go into and back from Mexico. Thank you CBSA for making CBP in the states look slow and inefficient.
