  • This is my favorite hotel, possibly above Palazzo & Wynn. Yes, I know a lot of people don't like Sands Resorts but I'm not on dope... I have my reasons. Let me illustrate: 1) CASINO The Venetian is one of my FAVORITE places to play. Their $25 3-2 double deck blackjack tables have generous rules. (DD any 2, split up to 4 aces, DD after splits) Only hitch that you might notice is that the pit tables "hit on soft 17"... but if you're willing to take your game up a notch, they offer "stand on soft 17" in high limit at $100 min. ...Some folks, including the people at VegasTripping have a bug up their ass about the Sands calling it "artificial" and claim it has "lousy table ambiance". Well, screw you VegasTripping. While you might whine about the lack of character in the casino, I look at the only things that matter: The table rules & how busy the casino is. 2) RESTAURANTS There's a fair amount of good food here. ...Here's the good restaurants: Bouchon, Delmonico, Valentino, Canyon Ranch Café, Riva Poolside, and "Woo" over at the Palazzo. ...Here's the bad ones: Aquaknox, David Burke, Tao, Postrio, or virtually all of the restaurants in Palazzo. (Except Woo) I have exceptions made for Grand Lux Café, Cocolini, and Noodle Asia. They aren't "first class" restaurants but they are open late and provide a nice respite from the tables. 3) COMP PLAN Club Grazie, their comp card, sucks. I frankly don't know why anyone would play slots at the Venetian: My experience has been that they're fairly tight. Although unlike Harrah's, they still have Monopoly & Wheel of Fortune which are favorites of many players. ...But when it comes to the table play, if you consistently go to the pits with $50+ average bets with a $2000+ bankroll, you'll get some nice "as available" 3-4 day invites. $100+ and $5000+ bankroll and you'll get close to RFB fairly easily. More than that and you're hitting what they classify as high rollers... let me be the first to welcome you to the Varsity team! 4) ROOMS This is the thing I love. The rooms are not just comfortable - they're PRACTICAL for business patrons. Here's a few examples: -- PRINTER: The printer is an all-in-one fax/scanner/printer/copier and has a USB cable off of it so that you can print from your laptop if you want to print your flight confirmation or your Vegas.com tickets. (Note: Wynn's printer lacks a USB cable!) -- ROOM SERVICE: Awesome at the Venetian. The food from room service is just top notch. Try the crab club. Yum. -- REMOTE CONTROLLED BLINDS: And drapes too. Everything is controlled by an RF remote that will open and close both your roman blinds as well as your drapery. Great for those "mornings" where you wake up at 1PM. -- INTERNET: The bandwidth charges are $9.95 for 24 hrs which blows but it's a consistent 1.5Mb which is more than I can say for the Wynn or Caesars where is an effing crapshoot as to how much bandwidth you'll get. -- POWER: Lots of power outlets near the desk! Charge your cell, laptop, media player, Bluetooth headset, razor, wife's cell... get it? You don't have to search the room for another power jack. -- WATER: The water pressure is solid and the hot water kicks in in less than a second. CONCLUSION: I love the Venetian, dammit... and to hell with the people that think it's 'fake'. Like ANYTHING in Vegas is 'real'? The only things that matter to me: - casino table odds - room amenities - comp plan - restaurants ... are all top shelf. If you want to bitch, go across the street to Caesar's and get swindled out of your cash at the tables and get crappy rooms with lousy facilities, dammit. That's just one more room vacancy for me to take advantage of. Dammit. 5-stars, dammit! ----------- INSIDER TIPS: $20 FRONT DESK TIP & LATE CHECK OUT Be sure to discretely tip the front desk $20 to have them upgrade you from a 5th-9th floor room that overlooks the parking structure to one closer to the 21st-27th floor with a strip view. Trust me - the parking structure view is just plain depressing. For success rates, visit http://www.frontdesktip.com/fhotel.php?id=2 . ... I've been told by an unnamed source that a good solid tip at the front desk or with any back of house staffer (room service, bell hop) will result in a favorable 'note' on your reservation, serving as a notice to other employees. i.e. Your level of service is met according to your level of generosity and that generosity may have history. So go to the front desk, and change $40 into $5 bills and 10 $1's. ... Also, for late risers: Check out time is 11AM but if you call the front desk they'll tell you that they can extend it to 12Noon. Very consistently, I've found that if you put out the Privacy sign, 12Noon really means closer to 1PM or even 2PM because no one comes to clean your room or anything. Nothing extra is billed to your room and no one hassles you.
