  • I really wished my first visit to a professional salon was something amazing. I usually get my hair styled at a basement salon and will dutifully do so from now on. It's enough to say that as soon as the stylist saw me, she rudely questioned out loud to her co-worker what the time was and how many more clients she had to do today. Herself and another stylist were standing gossiping with each other for a while before addressing me. When they were finished talking, I told them I wanted an even colour all over as I had dark roots growing out over very light hair. I told them I was sick of getting roots all the time and was just going for a colour that wouldnt be as obvious as my then dark blonde/brown compared to my natural dark brown. They said that was very easy, whipped up the colour and told me to wait. When she was free she literally slapped hair colour on to my scalp without a single smile or word throughout the entire process. It was rude and uncomfortable and had the hair colour not been on my head already, I would have spared her the trouble and walked out right away. Regardless, by the time she washed my hair (and probably noticed she had messed up), she was all smiles and talk. I voiced that my hair looked darker than I had expected but she told me it's just the lights and not to worry. She styled my hair very well. Suddenly the entire salon was coming by and complimenting my hair. While I was waiting for my ride, I was even given a makeup trail. All the stylists were now free as the salon was closing and were standing around watching. This made me feel rushed and uncomfortable as if I was keeping them from going home and I did not examine my hair as much as I should have. It was a obvious and tactful reversal of attitudes as when I saw my hair at home, my roots were showing like I hadn't had my hair done in years. The new colour was darker than the swatch and picture we had discussed and worse than that, my roots were 3-4 shades darker than my freshly coloured hair. When I said as much the next morning I was told (by the whole salon, once again) how my hair was EXACTLY like the picture I showed and how my roots weren't so dark. I felt like an idiot trying to convince people who were obviously denying the bad colour job that was done. The owner even told me I shouldn't go any lighter or "risk looking like those chinese and persian girls who go blonde." Considering that I was almost blonde when I walked in, it tells me this salon judges every client through the front door. I was even told to wash my hair with a bad shampoo like pantene to "maybe wash the colour out." and sent home because they couldn't "process my hair with more chemicals without damaging it." Me and my sister walked in the same day and the owner literally laughed at us for saying the roots were darker saying "OBVIOUSLY they are darker, when you put a light colour on dark hair, it will always be darker" We asked to fix it since I was promised one even colour and he said he would do nothing without charging us extra. When I found the idea of getting charged extra for a job poorly done by his stylist, he literally told us to pay or to get out. We were stunned at the lack of service and told him we would never come back. He smiled and said that's perfectly fine with him and signalled us to the door. I wish I could take back the insanely overpriced fee I payed for taking their attitude. I went to a salon today and the stylist said it is the easiest thing to lift the roots when roots are much darker than hair and spreading an even colour all over and NEVER costs extra when getting your hair coloured. If the stylists don't know such simple things as that, I wouldn't trust them anywhere close to my hair. This was literally $80.00 gone to waste. I was better off buying a Walmart hair colour box.
