  • Waited a half hour on a Sunday afternoon to try this Phoenix hotspot. Mostly a young crowd (this location was close by an ASU campus), I would guess they are drawn by good eats at good prices. I ordered the Sunday special, a nicely trimmed center cut sirloin steak, two eggs, home fries and sourdough toast with homemade strawberry preserves. The steak was cooked to order perfectly (medium rare), the home fries, eggs and toast were equally good. My wife ordered the Niman ranch hamburger with thick sliced bacon. Unfortunately, it came to the table well after my meal came and then had to be returned because it was underdone. By the time a properly cooked replacement arrived, I had already eaten my meal(at my wife's insistence!). On the plus side, the burger was delicious and she yummied it up. No less than three of the staff members apologized for the mishap and the manager let us know he was taking the burger off the bill, even though we never griped about the delay. I am from out of town, but I'm loving Phoenix hospitality! I would definitely return to Matt's; hoping I get the opportunity during my short stay here.
