| - AVOID shopping here! The sell defective furniture - knowingly!
I purchased 2 teak lounge chairs from the don mills store. One of the chairs basically broke right out of the box. We set it up and the after setting a ceramic chip bowl on the tray - it broke right off. Now this weekend, I sat on it, and one of the rungs broke right off! (I'm about 105 lbs) Now, I'm sure the tray fell off because it was defective and probably dried out or had wood already split on it, and if the chairs had been used more frequently over the last month, the rung probably would've broke off much sooner! There are also other spots after now inspecting the chairs that have some very weak rungs.
When I bought this product and I saw that it was on sale, I thought - great! on sale! wonderful! Normally $500 - must be good chairs. I thought it was on sale because they discontinued the line - something that is normal because styles change from year to year. What I didn't expect is we were knowingly being sold a chair that was defective. They should have mentioned that they were weak and might not even make it through the summer. Or not sell them at all!
The store manager was very unapologetic, and said "we had difficulty with this line, and sold it AS IS." I should have been told that there was difficulty with this line. Instead, I was just told that I would have to maintain it each summer so it wouldn't go grey.
I believe that the store is very shady. Especially now because the store manager gave me an email address for head office that bounced back. When I called the customer service at head office - it said "mailbox full", and I left a message in the general mailbox. I expect some recourse from them. I will keep this review updated.
Otherwise, I hope everyone AVOIDS this store or shops knowing they are buying something that could have any number of things go wrong and the company does not stand behind their products!
