Roselle is my favourite dessert place in Toronto ever since it opened in March 2015. The owners trained at George Brown College in Toronto and then in Paris, France before working in various Michelin Star locations around the world. They returned to Toronto and opened this little shop specializing in French desserts. I am so glad they did.
Each cakelet is a delicate creation of layered flavours that will make you feel like a dessert connoisseur as each ingredient reveals itself on your palette. I have tried every cakelet (usually $7 each) and they are all consistently exquisite. The chocolate and caramel are decadent without the syrupy thickness and the fruity confections are refreshing. The size of the cakelets are bigger than bite-sized without leaving you feeling overdosed on sweets. If you like a particular cake, Roselle can make it full-sized 8-inch with three-days advance notice. Their cookies, marshmallows, caramels, coffees and teas are great as well.
I bought a few small cakelets to a friend's house for dinner and they were definitely impressed. Roselle makes sure to pack the cakelets so they don't slide around in the box. For eating in, there is limited seating (up to 15 max), but it is a bright, clean, airy space with plenty of opportunity to people-watch because many regulars frequent this place. I always come here whenever I want to treat myself to something nice. Enjoy!
