| - 1. Two points for being on time
I called from Chandler and, as promised, a taxi was next to my door in 15 minutes.
A driver called when he arrived.
2. Minus one point for a car that smelled like an ashtray.
I mentioned the smell, and a taxi driver said that it should be smoke-free, but evidently, it was not the case with this car
3. Minus one point for getting from point A to point B by making a detour.
As soon as I noticed that we are driving on a street which was nowhere in my route, I questioned the driver why. We were supposed to take one street all the way to the destination - the fastest route. He replied that his navigation chose this route to avoid driving through Gilbert city (via Gilbert Rd). I understand they wanted to avoid extra lights, but because of it my mileage went up. I was supposed to pay around $23 (no traffic), but ended up with $30 ($35 after a tip) That's a big difference for such a short route.
4. One point for a convenience and decent driving.
Most likely, I will use them again, but next time I will make sure I know beforehand if they are planning on making any detours. Also, discountcab has a website where you can approximate your total and print out your route. If you want a piece of mind, you can just hand a print out to the driver and ask if this will be the route he/she takes.
8/23/12 Update
A reputation of a taxi cab company depends on 1. dispatcher 2. taxi driver
I had to take Discount Cab again (after I got disappointed in Clean Air Cab company where a driver wanted to overcharge me $12 because his navigation did not have South Power Rd and led him to North till he noticed & adjusted the route... yeah, right)
I had Schumacher as a driver, but I did not mind it because this guy knew what he was doing. Some people get into accidents driving 30mph so driving fast does not always = dangerous. The fare at the end of the trip was exactly what it was supposed to be - $33 (+$7 tip because I was happy with everything)
Suggestion to Discount Cab - put an ID tag with a driver info in front of passengers and encourage them to rate all drivers at the end of the trip. Everyone has smart phones; utilize it, and fire all drivers who get certain number of complains. If you want to be fancy, you can have a bar code assigned to each driver so it can be easily scanned.
I will give 1 star back when I consistently get drivers who do not try to scam me by blaming navigation (seems to be a common thing nowadays)
