| - This is my first review, and I'm thrilled that it's a good review for an amazing place to eat. I actually composed this in 2013 when the restaurant was open, although it has since closed.
First thing you notice walking in is that the place feels welcoming and interesting, with a counter where you order food and pay. The menu is on a board above the counter, but I think that is one of the reasons the prices are good.
Next, I noticed that the clientele are of different races, which you would expect from people who love good food. I took that to be a good sign.
I got the red beans and rice and the rib tips, and the owner JB brought over samples of the okra and candied yams. The okra was the best tasting okra I've ever had. It had a real flavor that I suppose Louisiana cooking has. I will definitely order some the next time I come.
Next the red beans and rice were the best in Madison compared to all the other restaurants I've been to that served them. This place rivals restaurants like Lilianas and Louisiannes in terms of taste and quality.
In fact I've had horrible food as takeout food from Lilianas (but eating in is a good choice there).
JB's Eat-a-Bite has unparalleled red beans and rice as it's resembled jambalaya more than beans and rice.
We haven't even gotten to the friendly customer service. Counter help are friendly and efficient (either better trained or more talented than at other fast sit down restaurants). And the founder and owner, James Brown, is a sincere, warm and genuine man. He and his restaurant are assets to the community and the city.
I liked the rib tips and will have to work my way through the rest of the menu. GF diners may have to talk with the owner a little and describe what they're looking for, but I had no trouble with the food I ate.
Candied yams deserve a real trial, but they were good. Perhaps my tastes and enjoyment of the other items overwhelmed them.
Highly recommended!
