I came to this restaurant with really high expectations given the reviews and comments from a few friends.
The restaurant is nice inside and has outdoor seating which is a plus.
Once we got seated, a gentlemen which I assume was the manager served us. He was very reserved, even slightly awkward. Although he did everything he needed to, I didn't get any hospitality from him. No welcome, suggestion, or presentation from the menu.
People like this make it seem as if they don't want to be there. Enthusiasm even if faked can make patrons feel more at home.
My date and I ordered the seafood paella. I was really hoping it would taste similar to the paella I've hadin Barcelona, Madrid, and Andalucia...but it fell quite short.
The patella is I think $16 or $18 per person and a paella for two had the following: two jumbo shrimp, two scallops, lots of mussels a few clams and calamari and sofrito.
The scallops were cooked perfectly nice and soft but the fact there was only two was a big disappointment. The shrimp were decent but again only two. The clams and mussels were good but those are hard to screw up on.
The calamari was WAY overcooked to the point it was rubbery. Ew. It also tasted very bland.
Overall the dish just lacked protein. It's as if they load you up on the cheap stuff (calamari and mussels) and give you just a teasing amount of the really good stuff (shrimp and scallops). If you are gonna charge a premium for a quintessential Spanish dish, at least give it more value or at a minimum a picture showing what to expect.
If I would have known it was just two shrimp and two scallops plus cheap seafood i would have gotten something else.
I will be back to try the seafood stew and perhaps a tapa or two. Hopefully my opinion of this restaurant will change then.
