| - The Riviera next door, alas, is now a part of fading Old Vegas history. You mostly have to go to Fremont Street to get that kind of vibe. But the good news is that the Peppermill is still here, still standing and still going strong as it has been since (GASP!) the Seventies! From our first visit there to our most recent, THIS is where we bring out-of-town friends and family, who want to experience some of that "back-in-the-day Vegas kitsch."
Best explanation I've heard given to describe this place is that "it's like having dinner inside of a giant disco glitter ball", and for the most part, that is fairly accurate. The purple-and-pink neon, the shimmery walls, and the over-the-top bar/lounge is one place you've got to see to believe!
The food isn't terrible, but not as great as the ambiance. And the menu is HUUUUGE, much like many of the portions. I'd be shocked if anyone could go through that WAR AND PEACE-sized list and declare, "I can't find anything I like." Be prepared NOT to hear that, but know that if you're not into Texas-sized servings, you WILL be taking home a doggie bag.
When you ride The Deuce, the city bus that carries everyone back and forth around the Strip, Peppermill is considered to be one of the main stops. One visit, and you'll know why. Here's to another dozen decades or so for this one-of-a-kind eatery.
