A shadow of its former self, this place is no longer an oasis.
I spent quite a bit of time here in high school and through college. We used to rent rooms by the pool at the MonteLago. When I worked in real estate in Vegas, we managed a few condos and homes here. Despite the economic downturn, people really wanted to live here.
I went through my phase with The Strip, and was over it in a flash. I honestly can't say this place is any better now.
I went here because it was an escape from the normal places tourists frequented in Vegas. It felt like a staycation and I enjoyed myself here quite often.
I now found it hard to find open businesses in the middle of summer! It used to be hoppin' and poppin' here. Instead, I was surrounded by geriatrics on a break from their retirement homes. That's it. Restaurants had posted hours and all of them were closed when they were supposed to be open. Really horrible restaurants had raised their prices just to make up for the lack of customers.
The shops were so overpriced I'm not sure how they made a living.
It's only busy during an event, which renders this place dead 90% of the time.
What's the point of this beautiful place if it's deserted and boring?
