| - Whenever I'm on Instagram, I always see this fabulous donut shops posting the most amazing looking donuts. Back when I was in West Virginia, I would just look at them in envy and bake myself some cookies, lol!
So now I get the chance to partake in some fancy donuts! I tried a few flavors: the birthday cake, the caramel cheesecake, the sweet potato, the mocha, the pink velvet, and a chocolate almond joy. Okay, so I now what you are thinking, "That isn't a few..." - I'm just making up for lost time. :)
Once I got home, I poured myself a nice tall glass of cold milk, and starting sampling each donut - as if I was doing Homer Simpson's version of a wine testing.
I will start with the bad first, and it isn't all that bad. The chocolate almond joy is a cake donut, but it doesn't have a strong enough flavor other than chocolate. It needed more coconut and almonds to pack a punch. Likewise, the pink velvet has a thin ribbon of cream cheese, so you are mostly getting cake donut. It is a good quality cake donut, but not enough dressing. Finally, the caramel cheesecake donut was not my cup of tea. It is like a boston creme with cheesecake filling, except I couldn't really tell it was cheesecake filling or just regular creme.
The sweet potato donut was recommended by my server, and that was very good. A simple glazed donut with a slight crisp and soft center. The mocha donut was another filled donut with a mocha flavored creme that was very good. Finally, my favorite was the birthday cake donut. I normally don't go for birthday flavor desserts (except cakes!), but this was a home run. Another filled donut with great toppings and cream.
Overall, I feel these are a step up from your run of the mill donuts, without a significant price hike, but I think there is still room for improvement on some of the donuts. But I will be back to try more, but just one at at time though. :)
