| - I woke up with pain on the entire right side of my face on Wednesday. Pushed through it--wrote it off as allergies, congestion, migraine, etc--on Thursday my face was throbbing so bad I couldn't take it, however the pain had centralized to one tooth. I decided to call my Dentist (Mark Eddington/Modern Dental) and they got me in right away. Eddington took xrays, discovered that I had curved roots, and decided to send me to a pro to get a root canal. I'd never had a root canal so I was freaking out. Thankfully Eddington gave me pain pills before I left and sent me off with a script for hydrocodone..I had NO IDEA how helpful that was about to be. Modern Dental called Shalev's office and Dr. Shalev's team got me in that same day, just a couple hours later.
I knew NOTHING about root canals going to Shalev's office. I didn't think I'd even be having it done THAT DAY. But as soon as Shalev touched my tooth and my entire brain rattled, he said "yep, this has got to go." I told him I DO NOT handle pain or needles well. He said "me either" and when he injected my mouth with the novacain, I didn't even realize he had done it! The man has an incredible technique that you don't even FEEL OR KNOW he's injecting your mouth. AMAZING!
**SIDE NOTE! If you are as SQUEEMISH as I am, asked Dr. Shalev NOT to go into detail about what he is doing as he's doing it haha** He is VERY informative and will tell you EVERYTHING going on..but for me personally, I didn't want to know.
My root canal would have been a MILLION TIMES faster and more smooth if it weren't for my "Wickedly twisted curvey roots" and the fact that I had FOUR OF THEM. But let me tell you, I'm the "rare one" and most people don't have roots like that. But either way, it all went smooth. Dr. Shalev was so kind. There's a sign in his office that says "JUST SAY YES to the patient in pain!" And I love that. His office will get you in if you are in pain..no need to wait..just be willing to work with THEIR schedule. He's a great guy and you can tell he REALLY cares about his patience and wants them to have the best.
I don't have dental insurance. The price was HIGH but it covers all three visits--the first (To do the root canal), the second (to finish root canal and put on temporary cap), and the follow up (five months later).
As much as root canals suck, I'm glad this was my first experience with a great dr. I highly recommend him!!!
