  • I just came back from this sugar shack today and it was a fun outing. But since we were with a group of almost 50 people some things didn't quite go as planned. First thing I noticed when arriving were all the cars, it's very popular. Upon entering, the cabin looks a lot smaller from the inside. There were hundreds of people all crammed together in the main waiting area. There is a stand where you can sample apple and maple ciders which are made on site and are also available for purchase. There's a tiny lounge area with a fireplace to just sit and relax, another room where you can visit the boilers to learn how their maple syrup is produced, you can also eat the classic "tire sur neige" (poured maple syrup on ice) and there's a bar/shop area where you can buy maple products as well as different beer and wine. Our group had made reservations for 1 pm and our table wasn't ready by the time we all came in, paid and got tickets, we were told to wait till 2 pm to eat. Right away I realised they were unorganized. It's a good thing there are some outdoor attractions to keep you busy, there's a horse drawn tractor ride and a mini farm with just a few animals that looked pitiful and in measly condition. Poor baby cow was sitting and shivering in its own filth. Some chicken, bunnies, a couple goats and pigs for you to pet and feed. When it was our turn to go in, the line was moving extremely slow. The guy checking the tickets was letting only a couple people in at a time and would then do something else. We were supposed to have a reserved room but ended up being split all over the place. The dining tables are scattered, there is a lack of space and the seats are mismatched as well. On one end you have a long communal bench, on the other, plastic school chairs. There were even people sitting outside the dining room area with what looked like makeshift tables with dividers in between. No complaints about the food, the main highlight for me was actually the pancakes which are labelled "crepes" on the menu, but they are the thick fluffy american kind. These are served for dessert so make sure to save some room for em! Main breakfast foods like scrambled eggs, creton, bread, sausage, beans, bacon, ham and pork ears were all present. Food is good, pricing is comparable to other sugar shacks, it's cheaper on week nights - Drawbacks are how small this place seems, not the best at handling big groups during a busy day and not the prettiest of environment.
